You're still awake at night?

My name is Jasper Arie Hendriks and I'm a 26 year-old master student at Delft University of Technology. I usually do not like to tell something about myself. However, it is very common for your personal blog to describe who you are and what you do. Its my turn now...

Field of Study: department of Architectural Engineering

I have chosen the Architectural Engineering program to study both the design and the technical aspects of architecture. Intent to be a
designer, but one with a specialized knowledge in building technology. With an emphasis on architecture I can really appreciate well-detailed buildings. Buildings designed by an architect or a team with profound technical knowledge tend to stand out. You just get a different kind of building if the designer has knowledge about the technological scientific areas. The aim is to solve the structural problems, deal with modern environmental concerns, the resulting need for sustainable methods and energy efficiency, while maintaining a certain architectural quality. It is the combination of these demands that makes a project interesting.

Increasing knowledge by staying abroad

It is all about exploring, discussing and forming my own opinion about architecture. I always wanted to study abroad although I didn't have a clear focus on what subject. Architecture has so many different aspects and scales that it is hard to switch between them. Looking forward, beyond the boundaries about what Holland has to offer, I want to increase my knowledge and expertise by studying architecture, which conditions has formed by other culture. With this profession it gives me the opportunity to design from a different perspective and further more applying materials, systems and constructions in an efficient and innovative manner. It is the interest on early Japanese architecture that pushes me to the other side of the world. Even today Japanese architecture exceeds modern standards. However as for Japanese architects such as Tadao Ando or Toyo Ito famous for their explicit buildings, they can be sometimes a bit over the top.

Research Description; Main Objective

I enjoy the combination of high-tech engineering and architectural applications. Think about parts of construction that respond to external forces such as wind-load, thermal activity and seismic influence. Fascinating are the mass-stabilizers / dampers in high rise structures or innovations with shape changing materials and non-mechanical joints. The goal is to develop or increase my knowledge on these aspects.
